McLean, VA — Geographic Services, Inc. (GS) publicly released its geographic database search engine software “DataFlex” June 19, 2007 at the ESRI Users Conference in San Diego, CA. The software release is the first for the geographic analysis company.

DataFlex serves as a geographic names database search engine and transforms the way geodatabase users access geospatial information. Existing interfaces require exact input parameters and provide limited search functionality for the geospatial analyst. DataFlex's array of sophisticated features make getting accurate search results easier than ever:

• Search using fuzzy logic. Users get accurate results even when the search data is incomplete. When an exact place name is not known, is mispronounced, or is improperly Romanized from the native text, DataFlex accurately finds the desired information.
• A fully realized graphical interface. DataFlex allows users to select the search area simply by dragging and clicking with a mouse. Analysts spend their time analyzing results rather than mastering the application.
• Multi-language glossary, including regional dialects and sophisticated phonetic components. DataFlex searches for common synonyms and homonyms within a language and across dialects, so users do not have be language experts to find what they need.
• Search results are displayed over topographic line maps, satellite imagery or other geo-referenced images so users may visually verify them.
• Historic name variance. Whether it's Mumbai and Bombay, or Reagan National and Washington National Airport, place names change over time. DataFlex returns results for all known historic names of geographic features.
• Search within results to drill down for greater accuracy.
• Limit searches by types of geographic features. When only partial place knowledge is available, users may base a search on specific feature type, such as rivers, or feature group, such as hydrographic features, to identify the desired place name.

DataFlex greatly improves the effectiveness and efficiency of geospatial analysis, saving time and reducing error for end-clients in every sector.
